Alexandra Carey has recently written her first novel, The Light that Bends Round Corners (published November 2023). She is also the author of two children's books, Ted Ted and the Dhobi Ghats and Ted Ted, Trouble in Tokyo.

Alexandra Carey lived with her family in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, between 2006 and 2013 and was inspired to write a novel based on her time there. The Light that Bends Round Corners is the story of two women’s interweaving lives. Laura is a wife and mother, who finds herself having to give up her job in London as a fashion journalist and move to a beautiful but dilapidated bungalow in Kuala Lumpur.  Mariel, the Filipina maid she hires, has spent her whole life dealing with injustice and abuse. Laura’s story is a journey of self-discovery. Mariel’s is a love story - a fight for a better life and to be with the man she loves.

Ted Ted and the Dhobi Ghats and Ted Ted, Trouble in Tokyo are delightful stories about a young English teddy bear and his misadventures in India and Japan. They are written for children aged between 5 and 10 and are beautifully illustrated by Antonia Ghazlan. For details of the books, see the Ted Ted page.

In January 2020 Alexandra took the 'Getting Started' course at Faber Academy which she then followed up with three full terms of their Mentoring Programme. She has an MA in History from Edinburgh University and was Head of Press for international classical music label, Naxos, from 1996 to 2002 when she set up as a freelance PR consultant. She wrote Ted Ted and the Dhobi Ghats and Ted Ted, Trouble in Tokyo during her time in Kuala Lumpur as well as working as as a volunteer for the UNHCR.
